Primary school education: Why do the school lunches suck?

Question by Annoynomous A2: Primary school education: Why do the school lunches suck?
Why can’t the school have booths from different fast foods like BK, KFC, etc. Why do they have to serve crap for food. Id the stupid government is making us students attend school the least they can do is make better tasting lunches from other fast food places.

Fast food is really unhealthy, and childhood obesity and diabetes are on the rise. It’s the school’s responsibility to do what’s best for the students, and that means serving you nutritious, well-balanced meals. Give it a chance.

The straight answer to your question of why is that public schools don’t have enough money to do all that they’re asked to do. I agree that often lunch menus are pretty nasty, but letting in the fast-food outlets would not be much of an improvement. Here’s why:
Fast food is expensive. If the schools worked out a deal to make it fit in their budget, the fast service and high quality would go away.
Fast food outlets are not set up to feed as many people all at one time as a cafeteria arrangement is. They’re fast, but only up to a point.
Schools are responsible for the health and safety of students while they’re in school. Fast food is nutritionally incomplete, and loaded with unnecessary sugar and salt. If the schools fed kids a fast food diet, they’d be failing their responsibility to keep the kids healthy.
From what I’ve seen of my son’s elementary school menu, the schools make an effort to include foods kids enjoy, such as pizza, hamburgers, corn dogs, etc., at least some of the time; but again, they’re working with a restricted budget and it’s hard to keep the quality up.

It is only at lunch, you can have your favorite meal when you get home. Lunch isn’t the most important part of the day the lessons are. If you want to do well in life you will have to concentrate more on what actually matters. Besides why don’t you just take a packed lunch one that you will enjoy. Fast food 24/7 is bad for you they are only trying to help you. Many children become obese these days and they are only helping you out of the situation.

Whoever provides the food could give two craps about the students. What’s worse is that all the “good” stuff from the vending machines because fat students don’t know how to jog…You know they charge students $ 2 for the junkie lunch food? Insane.
