Why do people kill themsevles smoking when its actaully not that hard to quit?

Question by Material: Why do people kill themsevles smoking when its actaully not that hard to quit?
My Story

Im 21, and have smoked very heavily since i was 16. 15-20 a day at all times, every day, ciggarette literally the moment i wake, ciggarette last thing before i go to bed, often i was smoking even when i didnt need it, it was just such a strong habit. i also had ashma at least at the point where i started, however about 6 months ago i said i would quit.

the longest i could go was 3 days, and then i would actually be high on not smoking, i would be in a crazy trance all the time, could not focus, couldnt watch a film without my mind drifting off. i got mad depressed during this time because every time you try to quit, even for like 2 days, for me at least, i had to revisit all dormant memories of arguments with my parents, being pushed around at school, past relationships ect.

But then a week ago i got really ill (the cause was me having to have my window open all the time to let the smoke out, but obviously letting the freezing cold in and i got really sick). however since then i have actaully beaten smoking.

I dont want a ciggarette even though my body does because, I ACTAULLY do not want one. i decided i hated smoking, that it was retarded getting that ill due to it, the smell of ciggarettes was maddening, ash everywhere even if you are careful. and yeah, its been a week and now im coughing up loads of stuff and feel so much healthier.

the important bit is that i wont crack tommorow and go buy a pack becuase i actaully dont want to. today i smelt someone smoking and shot around because it was so strong and foreign to me now. also, a thought that has kept me going was watching the “Life” series by David Attenbourough :P seeing the entirity of nature existing without ciggarettes, why do humans need it so bad? and if you need it so bad, maybe youre not very good at being a person or seem to have difficulty merely existing. Also, imagine the universe and how unlikly your coming into being is, the literally 1/billions chance, to take it for granted so bad is terrible, like, one shot at life and thats it and you will cut your life in half by dying at 50, and the quality of your young life will be terrible. For guys, wouldnt you want to get strong? ive spent the entire last week at the gym and seen how far behind i am, guys 2 years younger than be who would fucking rape me in a fight, they could take your girl and you couldnt do a thing. i also watched the film “thank you for smoking” that remarkably was the moment i had my last ciggarette, smoking is rebellious at all, you are getting fucking owned by a huge company, and not all of them smoke, cuz they know how disasterously bad it is for you and your money. Basically, the reason all film stars smoke is because they are paid to, i watched Ghostbusters the other day and they are all smoking, but that isnt because they are cool its because they are paid to. thats why you see it everywhere, not becuase it is natural its becuase they made it the norm.

basically i can done smoking and its been 7 days

There is a physical addiction to nicotine. Its not super hard, but it’s not easy. Most people who smoke hate it, but the physical addition keep them going.

I agree with you, but don’t blame the smoker. They are addicted to nicotine and brainwashed by society.

All those alleged years of smoking, all those packets of CIGARETTES and yet you still cannot spell CIGARETTES properly?….I think not!….

Talk to someone who has smoked for 40 years 5 packs a day…
smoking for 5 years a pack a day, is nothing

Well done to you for giving up!

I have never smoked, but my parents and grandmother did. All three of them gave up within 24 hours without any help.

It just shows how strong your mind can be!

People love to make excuses, smoking cigarettes are just another excuse people can use for things like taking breaks at work, feeling too unhealthy to do anything (laziness) and to gain attention from others

I know what you mean, I gave up smoking about 3 years ago, it just started to get boring and I had lost interest in it
