Q&A: why do magazines show skinny models, and then have stories about how bad it is to have an eating disorder?
Question by Maya: why do magazines show skinny models, and then have stories about how bad it is to have an eating disorder?
i was reading a teen vouge, and every page had at least one picture of a super-skinny girl but then in the middle of the magazine, they had this whole article about how you should be eating healthy and shouldn’t get too thin and then it went back to pages of models.
don’t get me wrong, i love teen vouge i’m just really confused. i wish they wouldn’t show all these perfect girls and then say “but it’s ok being just the way you are so don’t try to look like these people that we broadcast as having the perfect lives.”

Being you is the way to be, who cares if your a little overweight, its the inside that counts.

But it’s not necessary that all skinny models have an eating disorder. They could be healthy eaters that workout and have a fast metabolism.
You are right though, that magazines should show girls of all sizes. Recently the June 2010 issue of Glamour magazine showed three models of size 2, size 4, and size 6, on their cover page.
